Why are people afraid of people with tattoos? Like, a tattoo is the mark of the Devil or something and therefore everyone should run from your evil arse. It makes no sense to me. Some of the nicest people I know happen to have tattoos. I have 5 myself! :)

I think it depends on the tattoo and its placement, and overall number ... some tattoos have become very commonplace (tribal bands, butterflies on ankles, stamps on lower backs, and other such stuff you see on college campuses, etc.) and people are relatively accepting of them.

when I was 19, I was a college sophomore, IT major, working a secondhand electronics shop in a somewhat shady part of Rochester. a bunch of guys on motorcycles came in, rough looking, tattooed, pierced, etc. etc. etc.

The leader of this bunch of guys was a guy named Tako. Big Mexican guy -- big. Had been in the joint, and had all the tatts to go with it -- spider webs on his arms, gang symbols, etc. etc. almost every inch of skin was covered. His buddies were building up their own extensive work as well. I have to admit, I was about to take a leak in my undies, waiting on these guys.

Tako turned out to be one of the nicest people I've ever met -- the rest of those guys too. He and that bunch of guys came in regularly -- they ran a tattoo and piercing shop at the beach at the other end of town, and rode over at least once a week to see what we had.

That said, a lot of people with extensive tattoos do tend to exhibit of a bit of a predisposed attitude towards those without. Not all -- but many, at least those that I continue to encounter in my daily life.
