I'm a little taken back by this...money buys you the coverage not the quality or value of your startup!?!? I understand that a site like that needs to find a way to make money, but now doesn't that turn you off from going to it since $$ can buy you a way in??

Doesn't it go against social media and word of mouth??

I feel for you Ann, I really do.

I have about half a dozen ideas that I just can't move forward because of the risk-averse culture over here in Britain.

Ironically, I wrote about this "he who paid most wins .. for now!" kind of crap on Friday (http://www.blahblahtec...)

Just keep your head down and work hard...

I agree. I understand their need to make money. But maybe they should refocus their pay service as more of a marketing service, rather than a placement service for their own site.

In the end I think quality and usability win out. While one can buy some immediate publicity that doesn't really last. The trick is to win the marathon rather than the sprint.

i agree w/ Dan. I avoid these services...you're doing a better job yourself networking, twittering, and powncing.
