Hypothetical question: You have $400. You're already on AT&T. You're used to a 60GB iPod, of which you normally keep about 50GB full.

Do you get an 8GB iPhone (sacrificing storage capacity) or a 16GB iTouch (sacrificing being able to connect anywhere and having an all-in-one device)?

Do you want to carry a phone and your all your music on an iPod, your phone plus 16GB of music on an iTouch, or just the iPhone w/ 8GB of your music?

I'd deal w/ carrying a subset of my tunes if it means carrying fewer gadgets around.

You may already have AT&T, but how long are you locked in for? I have this nagging feeling that the cell phone world is going to change DRASTICALLY over the next two years.

In addition, you can bet there will be a 16 or maybe even 32 GB iPhone sometime in '08.

I say go with the Touch. Either way, learn to love smart play lists. I think Merlin Mann (43folders.com) has some good tips. I'm moving from 30 to 16 or (shudder) 8, so I'm going to have to plan as well.

I think I've got about a year left on AT&T. I miss T-Mobile's customer support, but the AT&T coverage seems to be better. I can stick it out on AT&T if I have to.

And trust me, I'm all about the smart playlists. Became an "advanced" smart playlist user long ago.

I'm starting to lean toward Patrick's opinion. Being able to combine three devices (phone, PDA, iPod) into one would make life much easier.

I fear it's the video that will kill me. I'm one of the few people who actually watch video on my iPod, normally while on the Metro or at lunch. They couldn't just put a hard drive in the iTouch, could they? Oh well.
