is it? I 'know' some citizens of the US vis the internet and was pleasantly suprised. why does the US think like this?

Many of the U.S. Americans I've met on the internet are usually of the intelligent variety.

However, living in Canada I have had several jobs while going through university where I had to talk to the general U.S. American public on the phone. The majority of people I talked to were belligerent morons. I was surprised by how many adults I talked to couldn't read or follow simple instructions.
