AM February 10, 2008 Twitter tweets from web:
Didn't get much sleep, but I'm working on some comprovisations (composition + improvisation pieces) and posting from my studio. Improvising patterns & countermelodies on Kurzweil keybd., experimenting w/moving patterns to different keys & different instrument patches.
Some melodic patterns & harmonies sound better on piano or guitar or marimba, etc. Testing my ideas. Just found one that made my heart sing.
Interesting how you can change one note in a chord or "voicing" on keybd., and it changes the feel or mood of a piece. Experimenting w/that. I haven't tweeted (or Pownced) composition processes before.
Trying patterns of notes in different rhythms, while testing variations in chord "voicings." Playing "tonal centers" sometimes, instead of musical keys, which gives me more possibilities to go to different places in a song or piece.
Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones. You can layer them together and they sound more complex & interesting, depending on context. I'm seeing parallels between music composition process and creating anything, even experimenting with business ideas and choosing the best ones.
Wish I could play music all day. This gives me ideas about how to use Twitter, Jaiku and/or Pownce sometimes when I'm composing, writing or making other art.
Then, I went to http://www.musicatkohl... (Music at Kohl Mansion, a Links Sound client) with @marantzguy to record the Rossetti String Quartet. We got an excellent live recording. It was an immersive music weekend. :-)
