Alright everyone out there with iPhone's ... thanks to Steve Jobs not making ANY mention of the 3G iPhone, and my contract with Verizon coming up in a week ...
I'm now the proud owner of an iPhone (eh hem, as is my wife, couldn't get away with just buying one) ... So a question:
How concerned should one be about the screen, scratching it, protecting the iPhone, etc.
My wife is really worried about throwing hers into her purse and it getting all dinged up. Can you put screen protectors on the screen (like a PDA) and still have the touch technology work well? Are there good cases for it that protect it without getting in your way too much? etc.

The screen itself is surprisingly resistant to scratching, but I still avoid putting it in the same pocket as my keys. I'm pretty sure you can get iPhone-specific covers that keep the integrity of the touch screen as well. The one big thing to be concerned about is smashing the screen. I know two victims already.

My gf has one and I can say that's it's incredibly slippery and easy to drop if you don't buy a case that gives it a good grip. While most cases make it's appearance less than ideal aesthetically, it's still a good investment.

i leave it in my pocket without a cover, since bulky cases don't fit in hipster jeans, and it's still pretty much pristine. as daniel said though, leaving it with keys or anything else would be imprudent.
