What's up, world? I just spent five minutes picking at a gel candle at my desk, trying to liberate a piece of wick that fell inside, wielding only paperclips and decent hand-eye coordination. Welcome to Tuesday nights in Skirtsville.

I've totally done this with a regular candle. I just hate having that thin film of wax on my fingers. Were you successful?

I certainly WAS successful! I used two paperclips like tweezers/chopsticks and rescued most of the wick remnants from the candle. It's a clear gel candle, so it's super obvious when anything BLACK and BURNT is floating around the bottom. The OCD/perfectionist side of me wouldn't rest easy until the candle was clean and clear (and under control).
