I used to think that the splash page was a good way to brand where you were going to, but now I realize it just wastes people's time. Instead, brand your main page but give it content and/or links to deeper pages.

Back in the day, weren't they just a sneaky way to misdirect visitors while that site loaded all of its imagery into the browser cache?
