That sounds interesting. We'll see how it goes... and btw. I still prefer twitter over pownce.
-
I hope they don't "come back". I still prefer the simplicity of Twitter.
-
Robert "come back" implies that Twitter has been losing ground to Pownce. Is that the case?

twitter and pownce are similar but offer different user experiences. pownce has a way to go before it becomes something i use regularly.
-
Hmm, I wonder why this got posted 3 times?
-
Nah, I don't assume anything. I like Pownce, but not necessarily more than Twitter (so far)- I went Pro just because I want to support development of this kind of innovative stuff. Same reason I've been a subscriber to Last.fm and DeviantArt: I never use the features, I just think it's important to show support for stuff you use and love. If Twitter had a Pro option I'd have done that too.
-
I wonder why there are so many double posts.

pownce so far has been interesting. I like twitter's simplicity.
-
I like the Twitter SMS posting, but the threading and file-sharing aspects of Pownce are neat. Also, I don't know if I have the energy to fully switch over from one social network I'm using less and less to another.

Sounds interesting :-)

I don't think going pro implies that you don't think twitter is going to come back, I think it basically says "hey, this looks cool... I will pay to help that grow". I would pay for pro twitter at the same time.

Comparing Twitter to Pownce is comparing apples to oranges. I see Pownce as file sharing, and Twitter as [mostly trivial] text messaging. Pownce "notes" seem to be generally far more relevant and less drivel. But if Twitter fixes "in reply to" and adds filesharing, it will beat Pownce. Maybe.

I am starting to like Pownce but it needs to be more mobile. It needs text messaging access and such imo.
-
In the midst of the talk of Twitter vs Pownce, I have to say that I still prefer Jaiku :)
-
I bought a PRO account to support a "creation" - there are very few companies/websites out there that can actually accomplish what Pownce has done. With that said - I do love the Mobile function of Twitter, but I will never use my twitter account again.
-
Twitter still rocks for being straightforward and having an easy to use client. Both systems have their bugs, so I'd say it's a toss up in that regard.
-
Twitter and Pownce, I think are in two different fields. Twitter is straight foward, random nonsense, updates of someones life (or a woot notifier >.>). Pownce I see as a way to share information with friends who aren't online. Its a shame not many of my friends are as net/tech savvy as I am. I don't think the average-joe type is really going to get into sites like these for a while.
And besides, these two probably share the same audience.
-
I still like twitter, I get most of my twits in sms so thats a big plus on the twitter side.
-
another vote for jaiku here!
-
Twitter is a bit more mature but pownce is more feature-rich. If twitter gets to add Sets and allows us to monitor tweets by Sets, then it will have a slight advantage.
Pownce needs to open its API to take advantage of third-party developers to create cool apps. Twitterrific did it for Twitter, unfortunately, the Adobe AIR Pownce app just couldn't cut it.
-
I went pro (as many others did) to support this initiative and because I find Pownce's features useful. I use Twitter as well and I hope the two services will compete. I'd be willing to pay for a Twitter Pro account down the line if new and useful features are implemented.
-
Am I the only one who think the features don't overlap? I don't see how it's Pownce vs Twitter.
-
What the heck? Redundant posts and redundant replies... is it just me or do you get some replies and posts twice or even three times?
-
yep on the redundancy. still relying on twitters sms posting. pownce is pretty slick, but how often are you really at your desk nowdays??

I read a great article/interview [The Rise of the Miniblog] with Evan Williams, founder of Twitter. Ev talks about Twitter and it's upcoming features. Article was published 07/09/2007:
