Mum almost ALWAYS comes home from Sunday service all pissed off. Not about God, but about little stuff here and there. And there i thought going to church would do her some good.

Perhaps she needs to find a different church?
When I was a kid I was always cranky after church but that was because I stopped believing early on (never sure I actually started believing actually), got bored sitting in the pews and hated having to dress up in itchy tights, uncomfortable shoes and dresses.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the church itself. I remember when i was young, we went to a different church together. I got so bored of Sunday school (all we did was coloring and singing that few same songs). Oh, and the only thing that kept me attending was the points system where we get stars for every attendance, which could be accumulated to exchange for toys/books.
Then when i was older and no longer going to church (a lot of people need faith to keep them going, so i think i probably haven't gone through enough hardships, or just agnostic), i remember her telling me how the church members despise her, them thinking that she show up at X'mas celebrations only for the food.
The church she is going to now, she seems quite happy there. Made some friends there. She would come back home still singing some hymns, then suddenly scream about, i dunno, the washing machine for instance.
