Relative ethics question.

Say there is someone beaten so severely that they have permanent physical damage and mental trauma but they live through it. If they commit suicide due to the pain they experience from living after this then is it equivalent to murder?

    No, its not your fault they cant get over it.

    It's not getting "getting over it" in the mental sense although it contributes. But it's chronic pain like say from a punctured lung or whatever other stuff can happen in severe beatings.

    It is a choice but it is a heavily influenced choice. Think of it like the pledge of allegiance. Legally no one can make you say the pledge. However social stigma and harassment make people say the pledge whether they agree with it or not just so they don't have to deal with the extra crap.
