Question of the day:

Why don't geek magazines have anything about programming in it? Wired,Geek magazine and all computer magazines write about anything but nothing about programming. So, I am now subscribed to Wired and I love it, but Im still buying Dr. Dobbs Journal occasionally because I can't find anything about software development in the magazine I read. Mac dedicated magazines will tell you how to arrange your photos in iPhoto or make a home video in iMovie, but will they ever mention XCode? No! Even if they do, it's just briefly that you don't even have to know the software to understand what is all about.

I remember when computer magazines were more about programming and technical stuff and none about Facebook,Myspace, Plaxo, this browser that browser so annoying. I am paying for periodicals so I want to get something more for the money not just a computer catalogue with flashy ads on every page. In the latest issue of Wired there is attached card-like ad for some cigarettes that is not perforated. If you want to pull it out, you would have to use scissors... how fun.

You should be reading MacTech. It's all about Mac programming, with in-depth articles & sample code.

I wouldn't buy some crappy product just because I saw an ad where a girl holding it, touching it, licking it or whatever. However, geek playboy-like magazine would be interesting :P

I suppose the actual topic of programming is too broad a subject to cover in detail.

Plus, there's so many different languages and platforms, which do you go with?

    Its called audience.

How many people are into consumer electonics. Many.
How many into computers and computer gadgets. Many.
How many are into programming. Not as many.
How many even know what Xcode even IS? Few at all.

For the biggest bang for the buck they need to hit a wide audience to attract advertisers.

Now how many advertisers are there out there for programming languages that would pay the money to advertise in a programming rag when few people are in that audience?

Its like asking why don't they have a podcast for .NET progs??

The money is where the population is. And its a sure bet that an Xcode or .Net prog will be into iPods or GPS or Microcomputers.
