PTotD: Are you an extrovert or an introvert?

I'm curious whether people who spend a lot of time online are more or less introverted than people who don't. Or whether people who use online social networks or more or less introverted than those who don't.

I suspect it has a lot to do with how much you like to share, and not so much to do with introversion and extroversion. IE some people are extroverted, but they never really engage in meaningful conversation. Some people are introverted, but the web gives them an opportunity to engage without the face-to-face interaction.

What do you think? Does your behavior on the web mirror you in person?

Me: I can be very talkative and outgoing around people, but I'm introverted in the Myers-Briggs sense (regain energy by being alone). I love spending hours and even days completely by myself. But when I'm alone... I can still be twittering away. Somehow it's different for me... a different energy.

I'm more of an introvert really, and I recognize a lot in how you explain how your are.

As I see it, I feel it is more important to be able to handle aloneness and being self-sufficient than being social 24/7 and almost being dependent on other people.

I am an I, but I have learned to be more E in certain situations. I think if I do the test, I'm borderline. But push come to shove, I'd rather be alone to recharge, and that's the tell tale sign.

I agree with your point about willingness to share being the factor, rather than I or E. I think Meyers-Briggs wasn't written with Web2.0 in mind! :)

Ditto Eugene's first paragraph for myself.

As far as being an E in certain situations, the instructor for one of our company MB classes mentioned the Four Cs which can cause an I to appear to be an E: when they are Confident, Competent, Coerced, or in Control. That really resonated with me.

According to Meyers-Briggs I'm an INFP. What Rod said is exactly true (appearing to be an E.)
