PTotD: What do you like about your job?

While I'm taking some time off from work I'm going to be spending some time reflecting on where I'm going with my career. Watch this space for more.

Perhaps surprising to those who have been following my twits, I actually really liked my job until a few months ago - and I'm pretty sure that my dislike for my job right now is because the rest of my life is so stressful.

What's so great about my job? Interesting projects that change before I get bored, meritocratic system for the most part (some quirks), and great, extremely intelligent people to work with day after day. Fabulous potential for doing more interesting things in the future, and, let's not forget, the opportunity to make a more than decent salary (less than say an investment banker, a hedge fund guy or an entrepreneur, but decent money) if I hang in there. Great benefits too.

You? What makes your job right for you?

I like the fact that I get a paid hour lunch, and that I'm only here 8 hours a day. Also we get extra days off besides the holidays and work only half a day before all the holidays.

I don't like the job, per se, just the bennies.

This is one of the areas in which Pownce's setup annoys me. Since every word you post is directly attached to your real name, you can't always be 100% open.

That said, I like being immersed in the news and getting to decide what other people have to watch in the morning. (Yes, extremely "old media," I know, but millions of people still utilize it every day ... And it's a duty I take seriously, that I perform to the best of my ability given the tools available to me.)
