Everyone seems to be blogging that pownce is losing steam. What do you think?

Well that clears that up then.

Part of the issue seems to be no one knows quite where to classify Pownce. It isn't an up to the second location tracker, stream of thought app so the Twitter ADD/ADHD crowd doesn't get it. (Sorry, did twitter for about 15 minutes and figured out conversations were impossible there)
It isn't very mobile right now, so the Mobile - centric Jaiku crowd doesn't get it (but that's ok.)
It isn't a blogging tool, or a Digg replacemet. It isn't a file sharing site, but you can send files to friends.
It just defies people's attempts at definition, so rather than try to decide "where" it goes, they just dump it in a bin and say "It'll never work for long...
Personally, I enjoy Pownce a great deal. The conversations here are much deeper than Jaiku and can actually be followed, unlike Twitter. I use Jaiku to keep up with friends and post on topics that are usually more fluff. Each has their place.
BTW, I feel that TechCrunch is loosing their "Reliable Source" tag anyway. I read too much pumping of sites that make no real sense and the dismissal of sites that are truely innovative.

I see where your going with this. As I commented on TC, pownce isn't really a twitter, an IM client, or even IRC, its somewhere in between.

what also helps pwnd pownce is that nobody knows how to use it. i tried to sign up my 6 friends, all of whom i picked because of they're tech savvy, and none of 'em "got it".

I like it and will stick with it until the pownce people do The Yearling on it.

...now if only pownce could support threading. Sometimes notes come in so fast and furious, I lose track of notes that I was following/reply to.
