I'm looking for recommendations for wiki software to be used for documentation and notes in a small team. My wish list is:

* Ideally PHP based and open source
* Textile for editing, or a pluggable architecture that would enable that. Most wiki formatting languages are just awful.
* Easy to run, maintain and keep backed up

And I think that's it. I know there are lots and lots out there, but personal recommendations are invaluable.

I've always liked PmWiki's (http://pmwiki.org) simplicity (file-based instead of MySQL). It's much easier to manage than MediaWiki and has pretty decent plugin support.

Thanks Kevin, I'd not looked at pmwiki until now. I see what you mean about the simplicity and easy of management - it took less than a minute to have it downloaded, installed and configured. Really impressive!

    Thanks for the recommendation.

I normally use Dokuwiki, which is also file-based, and it's reasonably easy to make custom designs for it. There appears to be a textile plugin for it at http://wiki.splitbrain... as well.
