The code Mike came up with to do so is: str.replaceAll("\\\\", "\\\\\\\\"); which converts jere\my to jere\\my.
To continue on, to escape a quote with \' is: replaceAll("'", "\\\\'");
Code to escape a double quote with \" is: replaceAll("\"", "\\\\\"");
