Afrael Ortiz, web developer and founder of Veneblogs, one Venezuela's largest blog networks, is denouncing that his cousin was wrongly murdered by the CICPC, Venezuela's
scientific police. I've translated his heartfelt blog post below; please help spread the word so this heinous murder doesn't go unpunished.
"I'm usually a very reserved person regarding my personal issues, but was has happened these past days deserves no silence, it deserves to be spread by all means
because this can happen to anyone, and I don't mean it in a yellow journalistic or fearmongering way, I mean it sincerely.
My cousin, Pericles José Ortiz Calles, was murdered, massacred by six gunshots at the hands of the police, the CICPC of Lara state with support from the Portuguesa
division. My cousin, a little over a year younger than me, father of three and of proper conduct, was coming back from Caracas from a series on interviews because
he would start working for the state's power company. After calling his wife during the day he told her he would stop at Taguanes and then go home, that was the
last she heard of him. After this a frenzied search started, which ended sadly in the morgue of the Acarigua Araure Hospital. My cousin leaves behind his three
children and his wife.
The CICPC claimed he was a dangerous criminal from the region, what a fucking criminal, he was a Systems Engineer graduated from UNEFA who had worked all his life
in the area, and like many, had built his home out of hard work and honesty, working for Arroz Cristal and other companies of the region. A criminal? Obviously the
police applied a policy of shoot first and ask later, like a Kafkian nightmare my cousin was caught in a bizarre, surreal and absurd situation where the
authorities abused their power and ended the life of an innocent.
I've been told that the CICPC claimed to have found a large caliber weapon and a large sum of cash in his car, unbelievably planted by the authorities to cover up their macabre mistake. This is real, this just happened to us, and I'm sure this happens every day. The CICPC also claims that it was a shootout, how can they call this a shootout when his car didn't have a single bullet hole and he was taken to the hospital by the police in his own car, obviously to cover their tracks. Plain and simple, MY COUSIN WAS MURDERED BY THE CICPC, MY COUSIN WAS KILLED BY THE POLICE and this can't go unpunished, those who did this have to pay for their mistake, they have to pay for the lightness with which they take a life, they have to pay for their lack of responsibility.
Help me, help me spread the voice, this can't end like this, this has to reach the newspapers, help me so this doesn't end in silence. The life of an innocent
can't end in silence, specially when it ends by the gunshots of the police forces that are supposed to protect us. Again, I ask from my heart, help me on this
crusade, this can't, mustn't and won't end in silence."
