The war in Iraq began on this day in 2003. Five years later, 3,990 American soldiers have died and an estimated 100,000 - 600,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed.

    The death toll would have been higher for Iraqi Civilians if Saddam was left in power.

    @Corey -
    I've noticed you are pretty good at pulling shit right out of your ass.

    @corey: how do you know? i mean.. is there a way to really know something like that? you can guess.. but there is absolutely no way to know for sure.

    How about the fact the US won't give the Iraqis a timetable as to when the plan on leaving? The government hasn't come right out and said "leave" but they want some kind of estimate. a week? a year? 10 years? give them something. I know as an American I want a timetable as well. I would love at least have some sort of deadline on this. I realize that with war nothing is certain, but c'mon.. they know what they are doing. It seems as though they don't ever plan on leaving Iraq. Personally I don't think the US should have gotten involved, but that's just my personal opinion. Now that they are involved.. I think it's time they let the American people and the Iraqi people in on the big secret as to when this will end.

    i assume corey is referring to the inability of Saddam to provide health care for his citizens although the facilities were available. or maybe he is referring to saddam's intentional mismanagement of the oil for food program. or maybe he was pointing to the mass graves which have been compare to those found during the holocaust... i don't know im just guessing.
  • Samantha F. replied Mar 19th
    just because there are graves doesn't mean that it was murder. people die everyday. mass graves could point to something along the lines of an epidemic. There are many communicative diseases that kill thousands in a short period of time. obviously i'm just pointing out a possibility. i'm probably wrong but it still an option.

    @Alex. I am good at it, thanks for noticing.

    @Joshua. Thanks for the backup.

    @Samantha. 1. We are still in Germany. We will maintain a presence in Iraq for a very long time. There are a multitude of reasons for this. Not the least of which is that Iran would take over Iraq in a heartbeat if the US wasn't there to stop them. Who else would intervene? Certainly not Europe, they are just a bunch of appeasers, they can't stop their own Muslim violence.

    @Samantha. 2. Yeah, musta been an epidemic, it wasn't ethnic cleansing, cause that never happens. Just cause there was ashes at Auschwitz doesn't mean that massive amounts of Jews were killed there. Hell the Middle East agrees with you on that I suppose.

    @all I was referring mostly to the Mass Graves found and the torture deployed on Saddam's own Citizens. The Surge is working in Iraq, I imagine the appeasers out there hate that. The worst thing we can do for Iraq, and the world, is just drop it, and pull out.

    oh so the typhus epidemic that was occurring throughout Europe in the 1930s and 40s is a totally far-fetched idea and couldn't have possibly killed anyone. my bad. i stand corrected.
