I saw a new Beastie Boys release at Starbucks yesterday. It's a collection of new instrumentals. Beastie Boys instrumentals.

But they actually can play instruments! I learned this a long time ago at Lollapalooza ('92 or so) when their whole sample/dub/etc. schtuff when kablammo and they had no choice.

Beastie Boys - The In Sound from Way Out, it's from 1996... unless you mean a new one? This is an amazing CD btw, and yes they do play instruments. They were a rock band originally...

The album is called "The Mix-Up" (ASIN B000PY32CE), and is a new release from a couple weeks ago.

I recall that they are capable of playing instruments - my recollection is that back in "the day" they got dissed for only rapping over samples.

So they learned to play (and added a fourth temporary member who nobody including me remembers the name of) to be a "band". That got old and they went back to their original plan.

BTW, /me has always been a fan of the Boys. But as a fan of irony, I would put a full album of Beastie Boys instrumentals in the same stack with an album of Carlos Santana a capella vocal tracks.
