Totally forgot to mention that !mmalone added a new feature that lets you link to another Pownce member's profile. Wow, nice profile pic.

Why !pownceuser ? shouldn't be more logical use @pownceuser ?
  • Leah C. replied Apr 9th
! is for a shout out
  • Leah C. replied Apr 9th
I suppose we could add the @username but then the stupid sites that post to many sites win. I like to screw them over... ;)
  • Trik . replied Apr 9th
Don't care about that stuff. How about we just get Pownce to load without the white screen or the 500 internal server error? Jesus, it's about every other re-load for me lately and of course all day yesterday.
  • Jon R. replied Apr 9th
!leahculver does it work in replies?
  • Michael M. replied Apr 9th
And if we support @replies then the stupid sites that post to many sites might inadvertently make us link to the wrong person on Pownce...

e.g., Joe Schmoe has the username joe on twitter, his friend types "something @joe" using ping.fm and posts it to twitter and Pownce. But the username "joe" is actually Joe Blow on Pownce. Joe Blow gets confused as to why Joe Schmoe's friend is @replying to him and takes his anger out by beating his children... is that what you really want?
  • Leah C. replied Apr 9th
What would you expect from a guy named Joe Blow?

Well, not bad maybe... BUT: yesterday I discovered, that the date of birth of some of my friends was visible via Google... Think that's a bug!!

    Please check this!!!
  • Oscar M. replied Apr 9th
!mmalone Yep, is what we want :D because that sites are third party services, it doesnt matter

and @ means "at" but ! means nothing
  • Leah C. replied Apr 9th
!perelandra - do your friends display their ages on their homepage?
  • Oscar M. replied Apr 9th
eh Leah, !pownceuser, doesnt work in replies :s

    BTW: change it :S @ @ @ @

i mentioned this in a reply to !ariel, too:

are there any plans to surface people's usernames in the user interface?? right now, in order to reference someone i either have to know their username or go rollover their name and get it from the URL.

also, i second the request to get the linkage going on the reply pages.

nifty feature, but could use a little help from the UI!
  • Guillermo E. replied Apr 9th
Maybe you can change the syntax to ¡mmalone! so it looks like you're shouting at them in spanish :P
  • Steven G. replied Apr 9th
Good Job, but it would look better without the "!" removed after submitted as a note, still linked of course.

I noticed it yesterday when someone forwarded a note.
  • Doug B. replied Apr 9th
I thought "!" was bang in UNIX notation. So, instead of at someone you bang someone?
  • mark b. replied Apr 9th
@Doug: so basically !-ing is the Pownce's randy approach to Facebook's poking?
I knew there was more to Leah's "f### buddy" diagram than just tom foolery. haha

    Great feature, great job !mmalone
  • JP T. replied Apr 9th
I agree, nice job. However, I DO think that making it work in replies, too, would help the callouts standout a little better when reading a long thread.
  • Michael M. replied Apr 9th
!viceclown, they'll work in replies shortly.
  • Mike N. replied Apr 9th
    !Twinks
  • Chris P. replied Apr 9th
Leah: Can you remove the "!" when creating the link? I assume you use it with a Regex
  • Chris P. replied Apr 9th
And also, do I have to ask you out or something to become your Pownce friend?
  • Oscar M. replied Apr 9th
!pownceuser function is useless, it just link to the user profile ,
  • mark b. replied Apr 9th
    !Oscar that's the idea.
it's so you can reference the person in your post.
like leah did.. as a "shout out".
  • Oscar M. replied Apr 10th
@mark But the display name is different from the username, so like hillary said "you have to know their username or go rollover their name and get it from the URL."
