Hmmm....it depends on where it comes from. I'm partial to Onion rings...but some places have really good fries. http://www.monkscafe.com/ in Philly is probably my favorite Pommes Frites with bourbon mayonnaise for dipping.

I love Onion Rings but they have to be super skinny. The big fat ones are hard to eat. BUT spicey fries are kinda amazing.

Homemade seasoned cajun fries --> homemade seasoned onion rings --> curly fries --> onion rings --> waffle fries --> nondescript straight fries

Fries. But when in the mood for onion rings I prefer them breaded to battered. And then I just eat the breading because onions bite back.

Onion rings are repellant on so many levels. Fries, but more like BK's than MacD's.

    Neither: Bloomin' Onion FTW.

Mmm.. Difficult to choose between *curly* fries and onion rings. I think curly fries > onion rings > 'straight' fries.

Onion rings when I'm eating them, fries after (onion rings = heartburn, but it's usually worth it!)

Unyun rangs. Battered, breaded, whatever. Too greasy and I'd prefer them less greasy - but I've barely ever thought to myself while eating a delicious onion ring, "Gee, this is too greasy. I'd rather be eating a different fried vegetable altogether, like a potato for instance."

both are good, but the best french fries will always win against the best onion rings. and shitty fries are still better than shitty onion rings.
