1) It's not actually mine, it belongs to work (they just let me take it everywhere and in return they get to use my photos). Thus I can't buy more lenses and accessories for it.
2) It's 4 years old and only 6.2 megapixels. (It's not the XTi, it's just a plain old Rebel)
3) The 40D is a nice step up and is faster. Mine is coming with a 28-135mm lens which will also give me more flexibility than the 18-55 I have on the Rebel.
That said, the Rebel is a great camera and has served me well, whether shooting people, buildings or events.

But it was time to get my own and as such time to move up. Alas, next I'll end up filling up my 500gb external drive then I'll need to get another of those!
