cat advice anyone? my cat has in the past week or so started paw in his water bowl and makes a mess -- how to stop that and why is he doing it? his water is fresh and we haven't changed anything in the past few years.

    All I can offer is empathy... ours both it as well...its like they are almost walking in place while drinking...

    My cats do that as well. From what I understand, it's a 'cat' thing - no rhyme or reason. :P One of mine actually 'drowns' his toy mice in his water bowl. :P

    both of mine do it. I think they are just playing.

    Mine put their mice in the water too. Makes for an awesome mess. I once saw one of them take a stuffed animal and dip it in the food bowl, then the water and leave it there to die.

    I'm afraid they're all right; he's just playing. If it really bothers you, every time you catch him doing it, spray him a little bit with a water bottle. It doesn't hurt them or anything, but they hate it. Eventually they *should* get the picture.
