Hey, you saved a lot of money on the frame... might as well splurge on the saddle, right? I couldn't get used to the Brooks myself. Apparently they need to be broken in before they become even marginally comfortable. :\
We were there to look at saddles for Gem's new bike. It was free and totally doesn't suck, so we're gonna splurge a little bit on accessories. The springy, ladies' Brooks (B67 S) can be had for ~$80!
Yeah, I'm on the fence about ratings. Today Kevin suggested a binary system, not unlike the one employed on popular bookmarking web site http://digg.com
The $650 one uses a lot less material than the $100 ones, and I would've thought that the leather is the bit you're really paying for. Still, the thought of a seat that molds itself to my undercarriage as I ride is nice, like spiderman's venom suit.
this. is. spartaaa. I was standing outside Open Da Nite the other day. This girl pulled up with a well worn old Miele, single-gear... and a Brooks saddle. She caught me looking at her seat.
Damn- until I heard this, the most expensive Brooks I knew of was the Ti Swallow (at about $350). Most Brookses you see around are B17s or Team Pros ($60-$150). Whether a Brooks is immediately comfortable or not depends on your body type- I've always found them really comfortable, but my hips are pretty wide. These days I prefer my Selle Italia Regal Ti, though.
