*sniffle*

Someone just told me to drink a warm glass of Southern Comfort with some lemon juice to get rid of my cold. Have any of you tried alcohol remedies? Any work for you?

    Whiskey and orange juice always does the trick for me.

    I've heard about these alcohol remedies, but I think they are just rubbish.

    Alcohol is technically a poison, so the body will not only try to fight your cold, but also fight the poison (alcohol).

    What has been proven to be effective is garlic. Fresh ginger in your soup is nice and cleansing.

    From a medical and nutritional viewpoint, I would never advice people to use alcohol to fight a cold. Your body has enough with fighting your cold, don't give it more worries.

    Whisky and lemon and honey is an old southern trick... but you could not pay me enough to drink warm SoCo... Hope you feel better soon!

    @Nick: Please tell me you don't really call it 'SoCo'. We can't get enough of mocking the ad on TV because we think no one in the world actually calls it that. Are we wrong?!

    @Nadia

    Medical professionals will tell you taht you can treat a cold with remedies for seven days and it will clear up. Or wait a week and it will get better.

    @Cursor: Yeah, I've heard that one before. For me, it's not about reducing the time I'm ill for - it's about using the medication to feel that little bit better while I wait. Thank god for nose spray.
