I air my thought. First she reads that dreadful novel and kind of want to get it on. And of course, it's Friday night when she finish the novel, so she goes to the nearest pub or club and gets shit-faced. Drags something home of the opposite sex, thinks she uses the condom; but after a while realises she has to use the pregnancy test because she doesn't remember if she used it, and she hasn't had her period yet.

Am I in the right ballpark here?

I used the term "mildly attractive" to describe the girl...I was being nice. I would hate to have seen the guy she drug home in your scenario...he would have had to been pretty wasted!
