I'm not really getting the point of pownce. Probably at least partly because I lack a critical mass of connected-to-me users that I get much value out of it, but I'm not perceiving features that make me want to use this network tool. Thoughts? Show me my blind spots?

I agree somewhat, but mostly due to my inability to get close friends to join another social network. Someone described Pownce as spam free email for friends.

I think it has potential though. Mostly the potential lies in where they take the Adobe AIR possibilities. Think about a plugin that is tied in with your outlook contacts. Or a plugin that will let you save pounce events in your local calendar, etc. All this is speculation, but a lot could be done with AIR.

Now that I have several friends on, it's turning out to be great!

Abby, that was what I meant by "because I lack a critical mass of connected-to-me users....". But ok. In what way is pownce great for you? What here is not possible with other social software already present?

Don, I'm afraid I'm going to be cynical and restate your description with revision defining Pownce as "as spam free as yet email for friends". Good point on the potential of the AIR tech, thanks.

Steve, I have to admit that I agree. It won't be long before the invites start piling up and they implement a "mark this as spam" button.

I happen to like the pownce interface. But I look at Jaiku and there is basically little difference (except file transfer and events, which I haven't even used yet)
