Public Notes

  • Public Time for schools to teach computing, not just train users

"To appreciate the distinction, think of sex. Would we be happy if schools provided sex training rather than sex education for our children? You only have to ask the question to know the answer."

  • Public I'm feeling guilty because I'm missing yet another Wednesday morning - the third this term already. S2 and S3 worked really well today and now I won't see them until Monday. On the up side I'm excited to try out flickr tomorrow afternoon with my S4 Graphics class.

  • Public post a note...Delighted because I have managed to get Autodesk Inventor to use Third Angle projection by default for BSI ans ISO drawings! I know what you're all thinking, but I'm happy to be a geek. :)

  • Public My S4 Product Design class seem up for the idea of doing a video/photo set of vacuum forming. It'd form part of their assessment and also serve as a design exercise in itself. Results to be posted on edubuzz.org/blogs/rhscdt

  • Public I'm considering the ways that we could assess in the S4 Product Design class. What are we aiming for in the course, other than just a pass at Higher?

Also looking at ways to make the S4/5 Graphic Communication course more relevant, exciting.

  • Public Does anyone have experience using styrofoam as a pattern in vacuum forming? Will it melt on impact?

  • Public Considering how best to teach my S4 Graphics class - half of them haven't done SG. Another quarter could easily be doing Adv Higher. It's supposed to be a 2yr Higher. Split level teaching doesn't even cover it.

  • Public put together a presentation for introducing Orthographics to Standard Grade. I'll trial it tomorrow and maybe make it public if it goes down well. I also made up a few posters showing the different types of drawing types to go on the wall of the GC rooms - Those are stuck at school though, I'll give you them soon.

  • Public I've fallen at the first hurdle with my facebook app - my hosts only run php4. Anyone got any suggestions for a play area? Preferably free.

  • Public Just spent the day hoping I'll get to SLF07. Got home to find out that there'll be a teachmeet in the Science Centre on the Wednesday. Now I really want to go. The Big Question is - will my first few weeks go well enough for me to present about using pownce in the classroom?

  • Public I've been doing a couple of prep things for starting school. Thinking about getting my craft and design class to blog their design process. An account for each of them on pownce could be pretty cool - short posts might suit them, then if they read each other's posts and replied it's almost peer assessment. Also looking at doing some sort of linkup with another school. More on ...
