new digg reactions, day 5:
1. a lot of lame stories are hitting the front page.
2. in light of this double-click crap, adblock is awesome. and most digg users should be using it. we're a technological savvy bunch, are we not?
3. even with adblock, blind digging is so much easier due to all the the tools people have built to workaround these changes. CPM advertising? not with us around.
4. wall spam sucks.
5. i feel a lot less educated now that the stories from people i trust are hard to read (especially since they're lacking descriptions!)
6. i feel sorry for leah culver, but why did anyone allow them to import the pownce features into digg anyway?
7. the new digg is certainly crappier than the old digg. i wonder when they'll get the clue.

comment from an anonymous person who read these thoughts:

"There's a REASON why digg top users got to be top users. They submit good content. With the new changes, there've been a lot of non-digg-top-users getting on the FP and the results have been....unpleasant"

So is there a proper app that will allow me to digg my friends' stories again? The more friends you have the slower digg gets, considering that I have 875 friends there's just no way I can open each and every story page (especially when I don't know if it has comments now).

it's like myspace all over again... slowness, ads, CPM, and wall spam...

i don't know, unfortunately. there are things roaming around, but since you can't get past page3, it's frustrating. there's no reason to have 875 friends, essentially, according to digg.

Great post and some very reasonable criticisms. I'm finding the Shout function somewhat redundant now. I avoid using it at all costs...

Actually, I can see the 'shout' feature being useful - when you wish to take a conversation in the comments of a submission to the next level. This avoids the name calling, the being dug down, etc. I'm not talking about name calling or mud slinging. I'm talking about continuing on with a conversation, instead of continuing to post it in the comments section. Or maybe somebody would like make a 'shout', instead of leaving a comment. I currently am only allowing shouts from friends only.

i'm having a problem with shouts 85% of the time. i'll send a shout, click "shout it," the textarea will turn gray (and stay gray), and the shout will never appear on the person's page. i thought it was just a script issue but i tried it on IE and FF on 2 computers.

I noticed that too, Tamar. You have to befriend that person first before you can shout at them. I figured that out last night. I don't even think you can use the supplied 'shoutback to ____" link to reply to a shout from a non-friend. I looked for a setting that would change that...unless I am missing something, doesn't seem to be one.

Just more irony...encouraging friends in one area...while ripping the rug out from them in others.

kelly, nice catch. i don't want to befriend 2848284 people. if people spam my wall (i allow shouts from everyone for the time being), i want to respond to them. apparently, i cannot do so right now. how lame.

this whole thing is lame. with the lack of descriptions, i feel less educated, but i thought news was all about education. shame.

Digg needs a "Stealth mode" option or something that keeps you logged in but turns off all friend features to facilitate faster load times. Right now it takes up to 20 seconds to render pages when I am logged in yet only 5 when not logged in.
