Dear Powncers,
This summer I'm going to move myselft to Cali - most probably Bay Area, SF. And I'm looking for affordable temp housing... Is there any advice from the community?
Please note: I can program for food and a bed.

You'll want roomates.... affordable housing in the SF Bay area is a contradiction. Even for not so affordable housing your looking at quite a commute to get downtown. I'd say try Craig's list and hope for some luck :)

Some tips: if it says "in the heart of downtown!" or "convenient, right by Civic/City Center!" or anything similar, don't even consider it. You would literally be fighting crack-smokers off your doorstep while going deaf from the sirens.
Anywhere else is great though. Expect to meet friendly, eccentric roommates, and pay 500-700 a month living with two other people. You'll be fine--lady programmers out here=instant win!

Thanks for the advices, guys!
I'm more interested in single bedroom apartments and I exactly know what "affordable" means in SF bayarea so I'm not shocked - it's still cheaper than downtown NYC!
Which neighborhoods are suitable? I dont have an unlimited budget but can afford about $1500 a month.
